The official results of 2025’s IOAI, International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence are out. And we are more than happy to see Krzysztof Rojek, Tymoteusz Stępkowski, and Dawid Kot from Poland winning the gold medals.
The beginnings of IOAI
IOAI aims to position itself among the elite International Science Olympiads, promoting AI understanding, innovation, and ethical considerations globally.
It was launched by the Bulgarian LERAI Foundation in Burgas, with its first edition only one year ago. It was governed by an international board and supported by a Scientific Committee, with inclusion and accessibility emphasized through the GAITE initiative (Global AI Talent Empowerment) – introduced primarily to support participants from countries with lower access to similar events.
The contest was founded in response to growing interest and competition in the field of AI and to promote equal chances of understanding it among tech students globally. By then, it brought together 41 teams from 32 countries and territories across 6 continents.
Initially, the Olympiad featured two main rounds:
Scientific (Theory): comprising an at-home stage (one month) and an on-site exam (8 hours), covering Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, and Computer Vision.
Practical: a 4-hour on-site creative challenge involving image and video generation using AI tools.
IOAI 2025
This year’s edition held in Beijing marked an even more significant global gathering, with around 310 students from 63 countries and territories, organized into 80 teams, making it the largest AI Olympiad to date. In 2025, with the patronage of not only local partners but also large international organizations like UNESCO.
The event turned into a celebration of new technologies and knowledge building within AI. It was not only about the national competition but also included campus tours, tech visits, individual contest, seminars, and cultural programs.
