In a growing and competitive market, diplomas might be not enough anymore. But ongoing development of technical skills in demand today often seems like a luxurious whim. Not everyone has appropriate resources to learn transferable competencies:

  • people may lack money — education, especially on a postgraduate level, is getting more and more expensive,

  • individuals often run out of time and energy - formalized learning entails overwhelming bureaucracy and demands a lot of sacrifices to be made in one’s weekly schedule,

to give just a couple of examples.

Finally, the fast-paced nature of tech-related fields means educational institutions often lag behind the latest developments. In a result, alongside the lack of resources, there’s also a lack of solutions and properly systematized materials to teach them.

Millioncoders is a community formed in response to this challenge.

Millioncoders rose to act for a positive transformation in tech skill development, with a specific focus on accessible coding education.

At ExpertHub, we believe that both our Experts and Clients can benefit extensively from cooperation with such a transformative actor. We subscribe wholeheartedly to the idea of self-development and professional growth of ICT specialists, and we want to support the scaling of innovative businesses and startups.

Irfan, one of the early contributors to Millioncoders’ strategy, now its Chief Technical & Strategy Officer (CTSO), told us his story and the story of the idea that maximizes the inclusivity of coding education. And we liked it. Perhaps you will like it too.

Coding as THE skill of today

“Anyone can learn coding.” But is it for everyone?

Growing up, Irfan was good at maths, but his overall interests were somewhere else. The decision to continue in software engineering studies was very random. “I saw the coding screen for the first time at university, while all my campus already knew how to do it.” He learned, though. And now runs a couple of software companies in UAE and India, proving that “everyone can do it.”

Coding, except for being a marketable skill, provides one with the ability to think reasonably. Though considered a hard skill, coding also enhances soft competencies. Practicing coding is like practicing a new language – it develops logical approaches to problem-solving and supports brain functions.

“It gives you a new perspective on things; everything seems doable when you know how to code!”

In today’s dynamic world, coding has become a competence desired in fields outside of engineering and technology. More and more often, it is present in business administration– or even marketing-related areas. Not to mention creative work like design.

In ICT, it is practically a must to know its basics.

A collective journey inspired by shared values

Irfan’s own journey—from studying biology in higher secondary, through joining Kerala’s leading tech university, CUSAT, to eventually building software companies—gave him a first-hand understanding of what it means to learn technology and make something meaningful out of it. In his journey, he has witnessed many who were not privileged enough to switch fields, attend reputed institutions, or afford expensive certifications.

Millioncoders was born in response to this global educational gap. Irfan always noticed many brilliant minds around himself among people of different kinds: local children, students, or even elderly. “They are doing some random things but perfectly and beautifully—not aware of technology. And what if technology was in their hands? They would have done it better and the world would have been so as well!” That is what motivated the idea of a community focused on inclusiveness.

We may speak different languages, grow up in different cultures, and face unique challenges, but it’s time we come together to build something beautiful. I’m talking about ordinary people, everywhere, thinking out loud, collaborating across continents, and solving real-world problems together. Imagine reimagining solutions, powered by early access to emerging technologies, with diverse minds united by a common purpose. A world without so-called borders is possible—where technology becomes our shared language, and collaboration becomes our way of life.

From Hackathons to Certifications

Millioncoders now reaches learners at all levels—from complete beginners to advanced developers. The platform offers completely free learning materials co-developed with educators and institutions, access to mentorship and certification programs, a space to join hackathons and online challenges, and career support through global collaborations.

Scholarships in popular universities of up to 50% are available for members, and the membership itself includes a complimentary certificate—either from AUPD (Acacia University, Arizona) or BTS (Barcelona Technology School).

How is that possible with a membership fee of 10 dollars per year?

Collaboration as the Key

Millioncoders is the result of consistent contributions from hundreds of volunteers, mentors, ambassadors, partner organizations, and sponsors. While Irfan’s role is consolidating the strategic roadmap, every major move taken so far has been fueled by feedback from the community and the shared values of those involved.

People support people. Most of our team’s work lies in forming partnerships and maintaining collaborations. All the other things are done thanks to these exact partnerships and collaborations!” he shares. “Millioncoders is sort of a social responsibility initiative that works and operates thanks to the social responsibility activity of others.” CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) resurfaces in our conversation many times, as it turns out to be the straightforward fuel of Millioncoders’ existence.

The courses that are available on the platform are developed thanks to cooperation with educational institutions, companies, and professionals, as well.

People actually want to do good things – but not everyone has the time to do it properly, in an organized way. So if you direct them towards a channel that offers them such an opportunity – they are ready to support you. We have been lucky with our supporters, but also very motivated and dedicated to finding the right ones.

While the Millioncoders team is relatively small and scattered across the globe, all volunteers, ambassadors, sponsors, and supporters constitute a greater bunch of over 150 different contributors.

We are in favour of global thinking when it comes to our strategy and that is why we reach out for partners very far. Even though we focus largely on the Middle East, Asia, and Africa, we also want to address more developed countries. I believe that there are individuals in need in every part of the world. And there is no equality without equal possibilities.

The need for sponsors to maintain such a broad and ambitious project is enormous. But aside from designing new courses and maintaining the community, this is what the Millioncoders are mostly occupied with. Just like everyone can become a coder, everyone can also become a sponsor.

Some people contribute with their time, some others with money. You could pay for a membership for 10 students, and we will find a vulnerable community to give it to, through collaboration with NGOs. If you act as a corporate – there are even more ways to support us. It is all one big chain of collaboration.

The Road Ahead: scaling impact with ExpertHub and beyond

The action plan for the coming years at Millioncoders includes extending the offer of events and broadening its reach geographically, especially in underserved regions. The team aims to build more local coding labs, along with AI and robotics labs, and to enrich its course offerings with more content related to other skill areas, particularly in emerging fields like artificial intelligence. The courses and themes of events are constantly updated to reflect the evolving needs of the market and the community.

Multilingual learning approach is another direction of development, beginning with French, Arabic, and Spanish. The community also aspires to become a trusted partner for universities, helping to manage the rigorous process of filtering and selecting students for scholarship opportunities.

Last, but not least, Millioncoders continues to expand their cooperation with partners that share their vision, such as ExpertHub.

At ExpertHub, we are happy to welcome skilled (Million)coders and other tech professionals interested in joining quality ICT & AI projects. On the other hand, we are also looking forward to exploring the upskilling potential for those already on our board.
